White Moon Selena in Your Natal Chart — Free Calculator

The White Moon, or Selena, is the point opposite Black Moon Lilith where the Moon swings closest to Earth. Astrologers read it as quiet fortune and the art of ease. This calculator places it for your birth instant.

What the White Moon means in a natal chart

Selena is a point of the Moon's orbit, not a body. The Moon travels an ellipse, so its distance from Earth changes every month. The far point is the apogee, and the near point is the perigee. Astrologers call the apogee Black Moon Lilith, and the opposite point the White Moon or Selena.

Where Lilith is read as hunger and the raw edge of the soul, Selena is read as its mirror — a kind of earned ease, nurturing fortune and the ability to receive. The two sit exactly 180 degrees apart, so they form one axis. You cannot have one without the other, and a reading gains depth by weighing both.

None of this is a testable claim. It is a modern interpretive tradition built on real orbital geometry. We give you the accurate point in the sky, and label the meaning clearly as symbolism.

How the White Moon is computed

The apogee and perigee are not fixed. The Moon's elliptical orbit slowly turns in space, so the line of apsides swings eastward around the zodiac. It completes one full turn in about 8.85 years, which works out to roughly 0.1114 degrees a day, or about 40.7 degrees a year. This turning is called apsidal precession.

We take the mean longitude of the lunar perigee from a standard series (the Meeus astronomical-algorithms form) and read it at your birth instant. Selena is that perigee longitude. Lilith, our apogee, is the same term shifted by 180 degrees. Because both come from one closed-form line, they are exactly opposite by construction, and the point always moves direct.

What you get back

Once you enter your birth data and cast the chart:

  • Selena's sign, degree and whole house, with its steady daily motion shown so you can see it is always direct.
  • The opposite Black Moon Lilith degree, so you can read the full apsidal axis at a glance rather than one half of it.
  • Every Ptolemaic aspect Selena forms to your natal planets, sorted tightest first with the orb, and a plain-language gloss of each.

How to read your White Moon

Read the axis before the point. Find Selena's sign and house, then look at Lilith in the opposite sign. One side shows where ease and reception come naturally; the other shows the underlying ache. Most readers find the pair more telling than either point alone.

Then weigh the aspects from the top of the list. A close, soft aspect to Selena marks an area where goodwill and quiet luck seem to flow. A hard aspect asks you to keep that ease under strain. Loose contacts near the six-degree limit are only background hints, so leave them lightly drawn.

A worked example, with real numbers

Take a birth at 17:30 on 1 January 2000 in London. Our engine places Selena at 23.38 degrees of Gemini, in the twelfth house, moving direct at about 0.111 degrees a day. Black Moon Lilith sits exactly opposite at 23.38 degrees of Sagittarius, a separation of 180.00 degrees.

The only natal contact inside orb is Selena sextile Jupiter at 1.89 degrees, and that sextile is applying. In this tradition an easy link to Jupiter reads as a quiet channel for growth, optimism and welcome help.

A second chart, cast for 12:30 on 15 July 1990 in Berlin, puts Selena at 28.22 degrees of Taurus in the eighth house with no natal planet inside orb at all. The same point then reads as a private reservoir rather than a spoken gift, which is exactly the unaspected case the notes above warn about.

Reading Selena without over-weighting it

Selena is a sensitive-point layer, so it colours the chart rather than leads it. The classical planets and the angles still carry the main story. Treat Selena and Lilith as a paired commentary that sharpens a theme already present, not as a headline of its own.

A common trap is to flatter the White Moon as pure good fortune. The honest read keeps the pair together. The ease of Selena is real in the chart, but it grows out of the same orbit that produces the ache of Lilith, so name both sides in the same breath.

Selena against Lilith and the true nodes

Selena and Lilith are the same lunar axis seen from opposite ends. If you have read Lilith in the karma and life-path reading, you are reading the far half of the line you meet here. This tool simply isolates the near half, the perigee, and its aspects.

Astronomers distinguish a mean apogee and perigee from their true, wobbling counterparts. We ship the mean perigee, the smooth precessing point, because it has a closed form we can pin to a formula. Some software defines Selena from the true apogee instead, so cross-tool degrees can differ slightly; the convention used here is stated in the limits below.

What this tool does not claim

This is the mean lunar perigee, a geometric point, not a physical body. There is no ephemeris error to quote, but the mean point ignores the short-period wobble of the true orbit. Its longitude is validated to be exactly 180 degrees from our Lilith (probe B13) and to precess at the correct direct rate. We do not claim the true, nutating apsis.

The meaning of the White Moon is interpretive tradition, not astronomy. We ship an honest point and label the symbolism clearly as symbolism. Calculations run entirely in your browser. Your birth data is never uploaded, never stored on a server, and never shared.

Our method in one line

Selena is the mean longitude of the lunar perigee from the Meeus apsidal-precession series, evaluated at your birth instant, always direct at about 0.1114 degrees a day, and exactly opposite the mean-apogee Black Moon Lilith in the same engine. Houses use Porphyry quadrant houses (whole-sign available on every chart). Reviewed by Dr. Amara Osei, Astronomy Reviewer.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Enter your birth data

Date, time and place. The apsidal axis drifts about 0.111 degrees a day, so the instant fixes the degree.

  2. 2

    Place the White Moon

Selena lands in sign, degree and house, with opposite Lilith shown beside it.

  3. 3

    Scan the aspects

Tightest first, every contact into your natal planets shows with its orb.

  4. 4

    Read the axis

Weigh Selena and Lilith together, since one point is only half of a single line.

Tip — An unaspected Selena is a private resource, not a loud gift — the aspects decide how visible it is.

Frequently asked questions

What is the White Moon in astrology?
The White Moon, or Selena, is the mean lunar perigee — the point in the Moon's orbit where it comes closest to Earth. Astrologers read it as the mirror of Black Moon Lilith, a symbol of ease, reception and a kind of quiet, earned good fortune.
Is Selena the same as Lilith?
They are the two ends of one line. Lilith marks the apogee, where the Moon is farthest, and Selena marks the perigee, where it is nearest, so the two always sit exactly 180 degrees apart. Read together they form a single axis in your chart.
How is the White Moon calculated here?
We evaluate the mean longitude of the lunar perigee from a standard astronomical series at your birth instant. That point precesses eastward about 0.1114 degrees a day and is always direct. The engine checks it is exactly opposite our Lilith.
What if Selena makes no aspects in my chart?
An unaspected Selena reads as a private, inner resource rather than something the world sees. It still sits in a sign and house, so it describes the style and the area of your ease, but it rarely forces itself into daily events until a transit contacts it.
Is the White Moon astronomically real?
The perigee is a real point of the Moon's orbit, so its geometry is honest. The personality meaning attached to it is a modern interpretive tradition, not a measured effect. We present the true point and label the reading as symbolism.
