Saturn Return Calculator — Your Exact Dates, All Lifetimes

Saturn takes about 29 years to circle the zodiac, so it steps back onto your natal Saturn's exact degree roughly once every 29 years — at about ages 28–30, 58–60 and 87–89. This tool computes those dates to the day for your own chart, shows which houses they hit, and works for Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto too.

What a Saturn return is

A Saturn return is the moment transiting Saturn crosses the exact zodiac degree Saturn occupied the minute you were born. Since Saturn's orbital period is 29.45 years, everyone alive gets a first return somewhere between about 27 and 31, a second near 58–60, and — luckier still — a third near 87–89.

Culturally it is the most famous timing marker in astrology: the late-twenties 'coming of age' window. Technically it is just a slow planet doing orbital mechanics, and its precise date depends entirely on your birth chart — which is exactly what the vague 'everyone's Saturn return is in 2025/2026' headlines cannot capture, because each person's degree comes due on their own date.

How we compute it

Your natal Saturn's longitude comes from the sub-arcsecond astronomy (VSOP87/ELP via astronomy-engine). We then scan forward across a full lifetime for the first instant Saturn's apparent longitude passes that degree again, refined to the minute by bisection — and repeat for every subsequent orbit.

One subtlety the headlines miss: outer planets slow, stop and retrograde each year near the crossing zone, so Saturn may pass your degree, back off, and pass it again two or three times within one 'return season'. We merge those re-crossings into a single return and report the first direct crossing — the date professional charts use.

The same solver powers Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto returns via the tabs, since every slow body marks its own cycle.

What you get

After entering your birth data:

  • Your natal Saturn's sign, degree and house — the degree every return re-crosses.
  • Every Saturn return across 120 years as exact calendar dates with your age at each one, badged past / next / upcoming.
  • Where Saturn actually is in the sky right now — its current sign and which of your houses it is transiting.
  • Switch to Jupiter (~12-year returns), Uranus (~84), Neptune (~165) or Pluto (one return per lifetime, for most people).

How the returns are traditionally read

Tradition reads each return as Saturn's audit of the territory its natal placement describes: the sign colours the style of the lesson, the house names the department of life. A Saturn in the 10th returns on career, standing and ambition; the same degree passing through the 4th hits home, roots and foundations instead.

The first return is the classic 'structure up or structure out' chapter — the self built on borrowed plans gets pressure-tested. The second, in the late fifties, is read as consolidation and inheritance; the third, rare and hard-won, as something close to permission to be unburdened. All of that is inherited symbolism; what the tool guarantees is the date the sky actually does it.

A worked example, with real numbers

Take a chart cast for 1 January 2000, 17:30 UTC in London: natal Saturn at 10.4° Taurus in the 10th house. The solver places the three returns at age 28.6 on 21 July 2028, age 58.3 on 9 May 2058, and age 87.5 on 23 June 2087 — each one Saturn stepping back onto 10.4° Taurus after a full orbit, re-crossings merged.

As of early October 2026 the real Saturn sits at 11.6° Aries — still travelling toward that Taurus degree, which comes due for this chart on 21 July 2028. Note how personal the arithmetic is: 'Saturn in Aries in 2026' is true for every human on Earth, but this specific 21 July 2028 date belongs to one birth chart.

What this tool does not claim

There is no controlled evidence that Saturn crossing a natal degree causes life events; the return's meaning is a traditional framework we present as culture, not physics. The dates are different in kind: they are orbital arithmetic checkable against any ephemeris.

Return dates for the second and third cycles assume nothing about lifespan and extend a full 120 years for completeness. A birth time accurate to the hour keeps the house placements right; the signs and degrees themselves depend only on the date. All math runs locally in your browser; no birth data is transmitted.

Saturn return vs solar return vs profection

Saturn returns and solar returns are different clocks entirely: a solar return is the Sun back to your natal degree every birthday (an annual chart), while a Saturn return happens once per 29-year orbit and is read as a chapter boundary, not a year. If you want the yearly and monthly layers next to the 29-year one, our Solar Return and Lunar Return tools cover them, and Time Lords (profection) ticks off a symbolic ruler every single year in between.

Our method in one line

First direct crossings of the natal degree found on sub-arcsecond astronomy (VSOP87/ELP via astronomy-engine) longitudes, refined to the minute, with retrograde re-crossings inside each season merged into one return. Reviewed by Dr. Amara Osei, Astronomy Reviewer.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Enter your birth data

Date, time and birthplace — natal Saturn's exact degree is the target every return must cross.

  2. 2

    Check where Saturn is now

The live card shows Saturn's current sign and your house — context for how far off the next return is.

  3. 3

    Read your three dates

Each return is badged past, next or upcoming with the exact age; the 'next' one is highlighted.

  4. 4

    Switch bodies if you like

The tabs re-run the same solver for Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune or Pluto returns.

Tip — Jupiter returns land roughly half-way between Saturn's — tradition reads them as the relief valve to Saturn's audit.

Frequently asked questions

Is my Saturn return in 2026 or 2027?
Only your own chart can answer that. Saturn's sign changes for everyone at once, but a 'return' is crossing your natal degree — someone with Saturn at 10° Aries returns while Saturn is in Aries; someone with Saturn at 10° Taurus waits until it gets there. The calculator gives your exact date, and the tabs show it for Jupiter through Pluto too.
Why do some sites say I get three or four returns in one year?
Those are the retrograde re-crossings inside one return season: Saturn slows, backs over your degree, then goes forward over it again. Astronomically it is one event window; we merge the passes and report the first direct crossing, which is the date charts conventionally use.
How exact are the dates?
The crossing instant is refined to the minute against VSOP87 planetary longitudes — the same theory professional ephemeris software uses. Differences of a minute or so between programs are normal (sidereal vs tropical and light-travel conventions), but day-and-sign will match.
What if I don't know my birth time?
You still get every return date and sign placement, because those depend only on the date. What you lose is the house column — which department of life the tradition says the return plays in — so the tool flags houses as approximate when the time is unknown.
Is my birth data private?
Calculations run entirely in your browser. Your birth data is never uploaded, never stored on a server, and never shared. Return dates are computed locally in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
