Karma Asteroid in Your Natal Chart — Free Calculator

The Karma asteroid marks what returns to you in a chart — the long thread between what is done and what comes back. This calculator places (3811) Karma for your birth instant and shows exactly what it touches.

What Karma means in a natal chart

Karma is asteroid number 3811, first observed in 1953 and named for the Sanskrit concept of action and its fruit. In charts astrologers read it as the place where debt and return play out — what you set in motion, and the form it takes when it comes back.

The concept travels with a built-in caution. Karma in a chart is not read as punishment. It is read as consequence: a marked area of life where actions accumulate and events keep circling to the same lesson. Its sign and house name the field; its aspects name the planets caught in the loop.

None of this is a testable claim. Rebirth and cosmic ledger ideas are interpretive traditions, not measured facts. We give you an accurate position in the sky and label the meaning clearly as symbolism.

How we compute the Karma placement

astronomy-engine carries the ten major planets, so Karma gets its own ephemeris. We ship a table of its orbit sampled yearly from NASA JPL Horizons between 1850 and 2100. Each row holds the orbital elements at that moment. At your birth time we interpolate the bracketing rows and solve Kepler's equation by Newton iteration.

That gives a heliocentric position. We subtract Earth's place from sub-arcsecond VSOP87 to get the geocentric line of sight, then precess and rotate into the tropical zodiac of your birth date. The path is checked against five JPL anchors, and Karma lands within about 0.8 degrees.

What you get back

After you enter your birth data and cast the chart:

  • The exact sign, degree and house of Karma in your natal chart, plus its daily motion and whether it runs retrograde.
  • Every Ptolemaic aspect Karma makes to your Sun, Moon and personal planets, sorted tightest first, with the orb shown.
  • A short traditional gloss of Karma's meaning, so a first-time reader has words for what Karma conjunct Saturn actually claims.
  • An honest note on the accuracy of the position, so you know how far you can lean on each aspect.

How to read your Karma placement

Read Saturn and the Nodes first, because they already carry karma-language in traditional and evolutionary charts. Karma the asteroid is used as a sharper, narrower marker: it points at one degree of one sign where the loop of action and return concentrates.

Then take the aspects in order. A tight link to a personal planet names the faculty under karmic pressure — Mercury for speech, Venus for value, Mars for drive. Contacts inside two or three degrees are worth real paragraphs; loose ones near the six-degree edge only hint.

Reading the Karma placement

The house is the headline. Karma in the second reads as recurring money and self-worth material; in the seventh as recurring relationship lessons; in the twelfth as the oldest and least visible loop. The sign colours the manner of the return — impulsive in Aries, patient and heavy in Capricorn.

Aspects decide how loud it is. Karma conjunct Saturn doubles the weight and is read as long-horizon consequence. Karma trine the Moon softens the loop into simple emotional habit. An unaspected Karma runs as a private undertone until a transit reaches its degree.

A worked example, with real numbers

Take a birth at 17:30 on 1 January 2000 in London. Our solver places Karma at 17.00 degrees of Cancer, in the twelfth house, retrograde at about 0.25 degrees a day. It stands over fourteen degrees of celestial latitude, far from the ecliptic band. Its one contact inside orb is a trine to the Moon at 0.93 degrees.

In this tradition that combination reads as old, quiet emotional material returning from below awareness — a twelfth-house loop soothed rather than forced, because the trine is easy and the Moon is the very planet the return concerns.

A second chart, cast for 12:30 on 15 July 1990 in Berlin, puts Karma direct at 26.77 degrees of Pisces in the fifth house, squaring Venus at 2.34 degrees. There the same body reads as creative and romantic action returning as lesson — a loopy, compassionate sign with a hard angle to the planet of value.

What this tool does not claim

The position is a two-body Kepler propagation of JPL osculating elements, not a full n-body integration. Real belt motion is pulled by Jupiter and the planets. Near the 1850 and 2100 edges that drift reaches about one degree. Astrological orbs start at two, so no reading here sits on the edge of the error bar.

Karma as a metaphysical idea is an article of faith, not a finding. This tool ships an accurate sky and one modern keyword tradition. Calculations run entirely in your browser. Your birth data is never uploaded, never stored on a server, and never shared.

Karma the asteroid against the Nodes and Saturn

Evolutionary astrology has long used the lunar Nodes for karma and Saturn for debt. The asteroid is a third, narrower voice: where the Nodes axis spans two signs and Saturn moves through a sign for years, Karma marks a single repeating degree. Readers use it to zoom in, not to overrule.

It also travels with a same-named tradition you can cross-check. Our karmic life-path tool computes the Nodes, Lilith and the Part of Fortune in one report. Casting both lets you see whether the asteroid's degree agrees with the older karma markers before you build a story on it.

Our method in one line

Osculating elements for (3811) Karma, sampled yearly from NASA JPL Horizons (DE441) and propagated with a Newton-solved Kepler solver to your birth instant. Earth comes from sub-arcsecond astronomy (VSOP87/ELP via astronomy-engine). Aspects use the Ptolemaic set with a six-degree outer orb. Reviewed by Dr. Amara Osei, Astronomy Reviewer.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Enter your birth data

Date, exact time and place. The Karma degree shifts every few days, so the time matters.

  2. 2

    Cast the placement

Karma lands in sign, degree and house against your natal chart.

  3. 3

    Scan the aspects

Sorted tightest first, every contact into your personal planets shows with its orb.

  4. 4

    Compare the markers

Set Karma beside your Nodes and Saturn to see which themes they share.

Tip — Retrograde Karma is read as an old loop re-running rather than a new debt opening.

Frequently asked questions

What is the asteroid Karma?
Karma is asteroid number 3811, first observed in 1953 and named for the Sanskrit idea of action and return. It is a main-belt asteroid. Astrologers use it as a marker for where deeds circle back in a chart.
What does Karma represent in astrology?
Astrologers read it as consequence rather than punishment — the recurring material around one degree of your chart. Its sign and house name the field of the loop, and its aspects name the natal planets pulled into it.
Is a bad Karma placement a sentence?
No reading here should be heard as a verdict. Even hard placements — a square to Venus, say — are used descriptively, as recurring themes to notice. The tradition itself frames karma as teachable, not damning, and none of it is testable.
How accurate is the Karma placement here?
Within about one degree across the 1850 to 2100 range, and closer near the present day. We propagate real JPL elements with a Kepler solver and check five anchors. Every orb we report is wider than that residual, so the aspects are stable.
Is karma scientifically proven?
No. Cosmic cause-and-effect across lives is an article of faith, not a measured finding. We present an accurate position in the sky and label the symbolism clearly as symbolism, nothing more.
