Haumea in Your Natal Chart — Free Dwarf Planet Calculator

Haumea is a dwarf planet beyond Neptune that spins so fast it was pulled into an egg shape. Named for the Hawaiian mother goddess of fertility and birth, astrologers read it as rapid becoming — renewal that arrives at headlong speed.

What Haumea means in a natal chart

Haumea is minor planet number 136108, carried in the catalogue under the provisional designation 2003 EL61. It is one of the recognised dwarf planets, and one of the strangest objects known: it completes a full spin in about four hours, fast enough that centrifugal force stretches it into an elongated shape — a tumbling cosmic egg with two small moons and, evidence suggests, its own thin ring.

Its name is the Hawaiian goddess Haumea — mother of many, the fertility figure of folklore who is associated with birth, renewal and the long line of descendants. Modern astrologers borrow the domain directly: Haumea marks wherever birth, rebirth and fast multiplication run in a chart.

In practice the body reads as the renewal principle — projects and phases that hatch in clusters, identity that keeps being re-born. None of this is a testable claim; the symbolism is labelled clearly as symbolism.

How we compute the Haumea placement

astronomy-engine carries the ten major planets, so Haumea gets its own ephemeris. We ship a table of its orbit sampled yearly from NASA JPL Horizons between 1850 and 2100. Each row holds the orbital elements at that moment. At your birth time we interpolate the bracketing rows and solve Kepler's equation by Newton iteration.

That gives a heliocentric position. We subtract Earth's place from sub-arcsecond VSOP87 to get the geocentric line of sight, then precess and rotate into the tropical zodiac of your birth date. Haumea's orbit is steeply swung, with latitudes past twenty degrees common. The path is checked against five JPL anchors, and Haumea lands within about 0.7 degrees.

What you get back

After you enter your birth data and cast the chart:

  • The exact sign, degree and house of Haumea in your natal chart, plus its daily motion and whether it runs retrograde.
  • Every Ptolemaic aspect Haumea makes to your Sun, Moon and personal planets, sorted tightest first, with the orb shown.
  • A short traditional gloss of Haumea's meaning, so a first-time reader has words for what Haumea square Venus actually claims.
  • An honest note on the accuracy of the position, so you know how far you can lean on each aspect.

How to read your Haumea placement

Haumea spends a few years in each sign, so treat the sign as an era stamp and the house as the personal nursery. The tradition's question is where renewal runs fast: which field of your chart keeps having children — literal, creative or symbolic.

Then weigh the aspects as the temperature of the theme. Links to the Moon colour family and body; links to Venus colour love and creation; hard aspects read as rebirth that costs something. Because Haumea crawls, any contact inside orb is rare — the printed orbs decide the paragraph.

Reading the Haumea placement

Sign colours the manner of becoming. Haumea in an air sign renews through ideas and circles; in Libra specifically, through partnership and balance struck and struck again. The house names the field: the fourth is home and lineage, the eleventh is the chosen family.

Aspects are the hatch events. Haumea square the Sun reads as identity reborn against pressure — the tradition's restless renewal. Haumea trine the Moon is the easy version: fertility, literal or creative, flowing with the chart's emotional tide.

A worked example, with real numbers

Take a birth at 17:30 on 1 January 2000 in London. Our solver places Haumea at 7.57 degrees of Libra, in the fourth house, moving direct at about 0.002 degrees a day — all but standing still, a body whose entire daily figure is two thousandths. It rides nearly twenty-six degrees north of the ecliptic. Its one contact inside orb is a square to the Sun at 3.03 degrees.

In this tradition that reads as the home field kept in renewal — Libra fourth-house rebirth through relationship and household balance, with the square to the Sun saying the identity pays a corner of the price each cycle.

A second chart, cast for 12:30 on 15 July 1990 in Berlin, puts Haumea at 26.34 degrees of Virgo in the eleventh house, applying a square to Venus at 1.91 degrees. The same distant mother there reads through the chosen family: renewal running through friendship and shared values, tuned precise by Virgo and pressed by the square to the planet of affection.

What this tool does not claim

The position is a two-body Kepler propagation of JPL osculating elements, not a full n-body integration. For a distant dwarf planet the drift is slow, and the five-anchor JPL check keeps the shipped table inside about one degree across the whole 1850 to 2100 span.

Haumea symbolism belongs to Hawaiian tradition, borrowed by modern astrology, and the object's discovery story itself is contested between observatories. We present an accurate position and label the symbolism clearly as symbolism. Calculations run entirely in your browser. Your birth data is never uploaded, never stored on a server, and never shared.

Haumea against the Moon, Venus and Makemake

The Moon already rules fertility, body and mothering in every traditional chart; Venus rules creation and attraction. Haumea is used for the faster, plural face of the same family: not one birth but the line that keeps bearing — clusters, renewals, reinvention at speed.

Beside Makemake the pair forms the dwarf-planet creation myth in two registers: Makemake the maker whose rise is announced, Haumea the mother whose becoming never stops. Readers who cast both usually let the houses decide which story the chart is actually telling.

Our method in one line

Osculating elements for (136108) Haumea, sampled yearly from NASA JPL Horizons (DE441) and propagated with a Newton-solved Kepler solver to your birth instant. Earth comes from sub-arcsecond astronomy (VSOP87/ELP via astronomy-engine). Aspects use the Ptolemaic set with a six-degree outer orb. Reviewed by Dr. Amara Osei, Astronomy Reviewer.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Enter your birth data

Date, exact time and place. Haumea barely moves, so the degree stamps the era.

  2. 2

    Cast the placement

Haumea lands in sign, degree and house against your natal chart.

  3. 3

    Scan the aspects

With a body this slow, any contact inside orb is worth the paragraph.

  4. 4

    Find the nursery

Read the house as the field that keeps renewing.

Tip — Compare Haumea's house with the Moon's. Mother and mothering often annotate one another.

Frequently asked questions

What is Haumea in astronomy?
Haumea is a dwarf planet beyond Neptune, minor planet 136108. It spins in about four hours — so fast it is stretched into an elongated shape — and it has two moons and evidence of a ring. It is named for the Hawaiian mother goddess.
What does Haumea represent in astrology?
Modern astrologers read Haumea as rapid, repeated becoming: fertility, rebirth and whatever keeps multiplying in your chart. Its house names the field of renewal, and its rare aspects colour what the cycle costs or gives.
Why are there two designations for Haumea?
It entered the catalogue under the provisional designation 2003 EL61 before receiving its name and number. Different survey teams also dispute who observed it first — an open footnote in recent astronomy that we simply report rather than referee.
How accurate is the Haumea placement here?
Within about one degree across the 1850 to 2100 range, and closer near the present day. We propagate real JPL elements with a Kepler solver and check five anchors. Every orb we report is wider than that residual, so the aspects are stable.
Is the meaning of Haumea scientifically proven?
No. Borrowing a Hawaiian goddess for a distant world and attaching fertility themes to it is modern interpretive tradition, not a measurable effect. We present an accurate position and label the symbolism clearly as symbolism.
