The four houses of provision
Traditional financial astrology splits wealth across four houses rather than pointing at a single bank-account degree. The 2nd house governs your own resources — earned income, possessions and the self-worth that underlies them. The 6th governs the daily trade: the work, service and routine that convert skill into a wage. The 8th governs shared and inherited money: investments, taxes, a partner's resources, legacies. The 10th governs the earning summit — the reputation and career position that income frequently rides on.
For each house we give the cusp sign, that sign's classical lord and where the lord sits, and any planets living in the house itself. The lord is the traditional key: the house's affairs are read through its ruler's sign, house and condition, so a well-placed lord is taken as an easier house and an afflicted or weak one as an area that demands more deliberate effort.
How we compute it
We cast your natal chart with sub-arcsecond astronomy (VSOP87/ELP via astronomy-engine) and Porphyry houses, then read the cusps of the 2nd, 6th, 8th and 10th, taking each cusp's sign and its classical ruler. We locate that ruler's own sign and house, and list any planets occupying the house directly. Venus and Jupiter are then pulled out whole — sign, house and traditional meaning — as the two benefics colouring how resources feel and flow.
The cusps depend on birth time, so we strongly recommend entering one; without a time we estimate the angles from a noon chart and mark the house readings as indicative, while the signs of any planets stay exact.
What you get
After entering one birth record, the report shows:
- Each of the four money houses: its cusp sign, its classical lord and the lord's placement, plus any planets inside.
- Venus — value, pleasure and what you trade for — in its sign and house.
- Jupiter — the traditional 'greater fortune' of expansion and generosity — in its sign and house.
- A plain-language note on what the tradition associates with each house of provision.
Reading your wealth blueprint
Read the four houses as four streams. A strong 2nd or its lord is classically tied to self-generated means; a busy 6th to income through craft, service and daily discipline; planets in the 8th to a life interwoven with other people's resources — partnership finances, investments, inheritances; a loaded 10th to status-driven earning. Then ask where Venus and Jupiter sit: their houses show the areas the tradition reads as naturally fortunate or value-laden, and their condition shows how easily that flow expresses.
This is deliberately a descriptive framework, not a wealth forecast. It is best used to reflect on your relationship with money — earning versus inheriting, independence versus shared resources — rather than to predict any figure. A useful first pass is simply to notice which of the four houses is busiest in your own chart: the stream carrying the most planets, or whose lord sits most prominently, is traditionally the channel your provision tends to run through.
A worked example: born 1 January 2000, 17:30 UTC, London
In this chart the 2nd house opens in Leo at 20.3° with no planets inside it, so the tradition reads self-generated resources through Leo's lord, the Sun — which sits at 10.6° Capricorn in the 6th house: security built patiently through daily work and long-term responsibility. The 6th house itself, on a Sagittarius cusp, holds both the Sun and Mercury, doubling the 'earning through vocation and mind' theme.
The 8th (Aquarius cusp) contains Mars — shared resources handled with initiative and occasional friction, under Saturn's cool, structural Aquarius tone. The 10th (Aries cusp) holds Jupiter and Saturn together: visible, expansive career growth braided with slow, earned authority. Venus in Sagittarius (5th house) colours value through exploration and creativity, and Jupiter on the Aries summit reinforces the growth-through-career note. Each of these is computed from the birth instant and is checkable against your own chart.
What this tool does not claim
This is not financial advice and predicts nothing about markets, income, investments or net worth. It reads four traditional houses and two benefics; it does not run the Lots of Fortune or Spirit as timing devices, nor the full dignity/afflictation scoring (both covered elsewhere). We use classical rulerships, so Aquarius is read to Saturn and Pisces to Jupiter.
Astrology has no scientific evidence base as a predictor of financial outcome. The astronomy is exact; the symbolism is offered for reflection. All computation runs locally in your browser.
Step by step
- 1
Enter birth data (with a time)
House cusps need the birth moment; give a time for an accurate blueprint.
- 2
Read the four streams
Compare the 2nd, 6th, 8th and 10th — your own means, your daily work, shared money, and your earning summit.
Tip — A money house with no planets is still read fully — through its cusp sign and that sign's lord, which the tool lists for you.
- 3
Locate the lords
For each house, note where its lord sits — that placement tells you which area of life carries that stream of provision.
- 4
Weigh Venus & Jupiter
See the two benefics' houses for the areas the tradition marks as value-laden and naturally expanding.
Frequently asked questions
- Which house is the 'money house'?
- There isn't a single one. The 2nd is the classic house of your own income and possessions, but traditional practice splits provision across four: the 2nd (what you earn and own), the 6th (the work that earns it), the 8th (other people's money, investments and inheritance) and the 10th (career and public standing). Reading all four gives a far richer picture than the 2nd alone.
- What does the 8th house mean for money?
- The 8th is the house of shared and transferred resources: a partner's income, joint accounts, investments, taxes, insurance, debts and inheritances. Planets here are traditionally read as a life entangled with other people's money — for better or worse depending on the planet and its condition.
- Do Venus and Jupiter rule wealth?
- In the classical scheme they are the two benefics. Venus (the 'lesser fortune') governs value, pleasure and exchange; Jupiter (the 'greater fortune') governs expansion, generosity and opportunity. Their sign, house and condition are taken as where ease and increase are most naturally sought — not a guarantee of it.
- Can this predict when I'll be rich?
- No. Astrology is not a validated financial forecasting tool, and we won't pretend otherwise. This describes the traditional symbolism your chart assigns to different kinds of provision. Timing techniques like profections and returns can add a 'when' lens elsewhere, but even those are reflective, not predictive.
- Is my birth data private?
- Calculations run entirely in your browser. Your birth data is never uploaded, never stored on a server, and never shared. The blueprint is computed locally in your browser; nothing is uploaded or stored.
