What the 'soul' points actually are
None of these are physical objects. The lunar Nodes are the two points where the Moon's tilted orbit crosses the ecliptic — where an eclipse could happen — not bodies; tradition reads them as an axis of growth, the North Node pulling toward the unfamiliar and the South Node the mastered-but-stale comfort behind it.
Lilith, as used here, is the Moon's apogee — the farthest point of its orbit — a mathematical point some schools treat as the untamed, unapologetic strand of the psyche. The Part of Fortune is a classical 'lot', an angle derived from the Sun, Moon and Ascendant, read as a hint of where effort tends to meet ease.
The transpersonal planets — Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto — move so slowly that they mark generations rather than individuals; esoterically they are read as the larger story underneath the personal Sun-Moon-Rising triad. What unites all of them is that they are placed by exact arithmetic on your real chart, even though the meanings attached are inherited symbolism.
How we compute it
Your chart is cast from sub-arcsecond astronomy (VSOP87/ELP via astronomy-engine). The North Node is the mean lunar node (the classical point used in most karmic astrology), and the South Node is exactly 180° opposite. Lilith is the mean lunar apogee, and the Part of Fortune uses the traditional day/night formula (Ascendant plus or minus the Moon–Sun separation, choosing the branch by whether the Sun was above the horizon). Each point's house comes from your Porphyry quadrant houses (whole-sign available on every chart) cusps.
So every sign and degree shown is genuinely derived from your birth moment — there is no fudge in the placement. Where the honesty has to bite is the interpretation, which is culture, not calculation, and is labelled as such throughout.
What you get
After entering one birth record, the report shows:
- Your North and South Node — sign and house for each end of the axis, and the traditional growth reading.
- Lilith and the Part of Fortune, each placed by sign and house with its classical keyword.
- The Sun as the soul's core radiance, and Neptune and Pluto as the deeper currents of ideal and transformation.
- A clear note on which parts are exact astronomy and which are reflective tradition.
How the tradition reads the axis
The Nodes are usually described as a development arc rather than a verdict: the South Node sign and house name a gift you lean on too comfortably, and the North Node names the more awkward, generative direction it points toward. The house tells you the arena of life where that stretch happens. Read that way, the axis is a question — 'where am I coasting, and where am I being asked to grow?' — not a prediction.
Lilith tends to be read as the part of you that refuses to be tamed, placed by sign and house as where that unapologetic strand lives; the Part of Fortune as a pocket of natural ease. Again, these are lenses. Nothing here asks you to believe in past lives — the Node 'axis' works perfectly well as a plain metaphor for a habit and the growth beyond it, whichever way you choose to hold it.
A worked example: born 1 January 1990, 12:00 London
For this chart the mean North Node sits at about 18.4° Aquarius in the 11th house, so the South Node is at 18.4° Leo in the 5th — a classic axis from creative, individual self-expression (Leo/5th) toward the detached, collective, friendship-and-ideals territory of Aquarius/11th. Lilith falls near 6.5° Scorpio in the 7th, and the Part of Fortune near 17.4° Gemini in the 3rd — a lot placed in the house of speech, learning and short journeys.
The personal Sun is at about 10.8° Capricorn in the 10th (a strong, public, achievement-oriented placement), joined there by Neptune at about 12.0° Capricorn — generational, since Neptune spends years in each sign — while Pluto sits at roughly 17.1° Scorpio in the 7th. Held as metaphor, the picture reads as a soul learning to move from proud solo creativity toward contributing to something larger, with the day's work playing out very visibly in the public arena.
What this tool does not claim
This is a reflective reading, not metaphysics. We make no claim that the Nodes prove a past life, that Lilith is a literal entity, or that the Part of Fortune guarantees fortune. Astrological interpretation in general has no controlled scientific support, and this page is honest about that: the placements are exact, the meanings are optional.
The Nodes and Lilith here are the mean (mathematical) points, which is standard but differs slightly from the 'true' osculating values some software uses — the difference is a fraction of a degree at most and moves no point a sign. The houses, of course, depend on your birth time. All computation runs locally; your birth data never leaves your browser.
Where it sits next to other readings
Our Karmic Life Path tool goes deep on the Node axis and Saturn alone, and the Draconic Soul Blueprint re-expresses the entire chart on the node-based zodiac — both are the natural next stops if this vocabulary appeals. The Hidden Depths Blueprint covers the 8th and 12th houses and the South Node from a psychological angle. This report is the compact tour through all the 'quieter coordinates' at once.
Our method in one line
Mean Node, mean-Lilith and the day/night Part of Fortune computed exactly from your birth chart (sub-arcsecond astronomy (VSOP87/ELP via astronomy-engine)) and placed in your Porphyry quadrant houses (whole-sign available on every chart) houses, with clearly-labelled traditional interpretation. Step by step
- 1
Enter one birth record
Date, time and place — the time is needed for the houses, though the signs are secure without it.
- 2
Read the soul axis
See the North and South Node by sign and house, and where Lilith and the Part of Fortune land.
- 3
Add the transpersonal layer
Look at the Sun, Neptune and Pluto as the deeper, slower currents of the chart.
- 4
Hold it as metaphor
Tip: use the Nodes as a question about habit and growth, not a verdict. Tip: none of this requires believing in past lives to be worth reflecting on.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I have to believe in reincarnation for this to mean anything?
- No. The 'soul' and 'karmic' language around the Nodes is traditional, but the same axis works as an ordinary psychological metaphor: the South Node as a strength you over-rely on, the North Node as the growth edge it points toward. You can take the reflection and leave the metaphysics entirely — the tool is written to be useful either way.
- What is the difference between the North and South Node?
- They are the two ends of one line — the points where the Moon's orbit crosses the ecliptic — always exactly 180° apart. Tradition gives the South Node a 'comfort zone' flavour (a gift you've mastered and can lean on too much) and the North Node the stretching, less-familiar direction it points to. Your sign-and-house pair for each is what the report reads.
- Is Lilith a planet?
- No. Lilith here is the mean lunar apogee — the point in the Moon's orbit farthest from Earth — a calculated point, not a body. It carries a modern mythic reading (the untamed, unapologising strand of the psyche, sometimes called the 'dark moon' lady). Treat its house and sign as an evocative frame, not a fact about an object near you.
- How is the Part of Fortune calculated?
- It is one of the classical 'lots': an arc between the Sun and Moon projected from the Ascendant. The traditional formula flips the arc depending on whether it was a day or a night birth (for a day chart it is Ascendant + Moon − Sun; for a night chart Ascendant + Sun − Moon), and this tool uses that day/night branch exactly.
- Is my birth data private?
- Calculations run entirely in your browser. Your birth data is never uploaded, never stored on a server, and never shared. The nodes, lots and placements are all computed locally in your browser from your birth data; nothing is uploaded or stored.
